Caring for Observant Jewish Patients and Families
Jersey Shore University Medical Center provides specialized services and facilities to meet the personal, family and religious needs of our observant Jewish patients.
A hospitality room located on the third floor of the Booker Pavilion is available with a Kosher pantry, and sleeping and bathing accommodations. Please call extension 64991 for more information. Additionally, during Sukkos, a Sukkah is available in the central courtyard, accessible through the corridor connecting the Brennan Pavilion and Booker Pavilion.
Glatt Kosher and Cholov Yisroel meals are available from Palace Caterers. Your nurse or a Food & Nutrition team member can provide menus with complete breakfast, lunch, and dinner offerings of both meat and dairy dishes. For special needs not addressed by the menu, please call extension 55021, and a supervisor will gladly assist you.
Kosher pantries, stocked and maintained by the Bikur Cholim, are available at the following locations at the Medical Center:
- Hospitality Room – Booker Pavilion, Rooms 358 & 359
- Emergency Department – Main Emergency Department
- Maternity Unit (maternity patient use only)
To obtain a small Kosher refrigerator for personal use in your room, call extension 68632.
Sabbath Entrances, Elevators, and Stairwells
On the Sabbath or during holidays, visitors can enter or exit through manual doors at the Brennan Pavilion entrance or Emergency Department. Visitors may also exit through the manual door on the first floor of the Booker Pavilion.
Maps of stairwells and non-automated public restrooms are available at the Brennan Pavilion, Booker Pavilion, and Amdur Pavilion security desks, as well as in the Emergency Department and the Hospitality Room.
Elevators in the Brennan Pavilion and the Amdur Pavilion are programmed to stop automatically at each floor during the Sabbath and on holidays.

The Bikur Cholim of Lakewood has a wide range of programs that can alleviate the concerns of patients and their families and provide for the various needs associated with hospitalization. They are available 24 hours through their hotline at 1-866-905-3020.
