The Division of Psychiatry at Jersey Shore offers a six-week rotation in inpatient, consultation, and outpatient psychiatry. We share a curriculum with RWJMS. All lectures are delivered at the medical school campus in Piscataway, NJ. Psychiatry residents from RWJMS rotate through our Division. We provide comprehensive care for patients of diverse backgrounds from all socioeconomic groups. During their core psychiatry clerkship, learners will be exposed to treatment of patients with psychiatric illness including medication management, psychotherapy both individual and group, and other somatic treatments. Medical students become part of the team in psychiatry, rounding on our consult liaison service, interviewing patients and learning about daily patient management on our busy in-patient service. During this rotation, students will also be exposed to the care of psychiatric illness in the outpatient setting, have the opportunity to participate in the process of group therapy, and broaden their knowledge in diagnosis and treatment of substance abuse disorders.
