Pediatric Concentration Chairman's Introduction
Jersey Shore University Medical Center and K Hovnanian Children’s Hospital sponsor a comprehensive and innovative Pediatric Residency program. The residency program currently has 9 first year, 9 second year and 9 third year residents, a PGY 4 chief resident and a hospitalist fellow. Jersey Shore offers numerous medical and osteopathic students at every level of training and prioritizes medical education as one of its missions.
Our pediatric residency program is part of Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University, where program leadership aims to provide the highest quality pediatric training while maintaining awareness of their need to grow as individuals. Our program offers alternative electives which are available at Hackensack University Medical Center in pediatric rheumatology and genetics.
K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital offers this area’s largest network of board-certified pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists. There are over 120 pediatric specialists covering every specialty in pediatrics and pediatric surgery. The hospital has 45 inpatient pediatric beds, 10 PICU beds, 35 NICU beds and a dedicated 24/7 pediatric emergency department. We are also a teaching and a research medical center. Faculty of the Department published 20 articles in 2017 in peer-reviewed journals.
I believe that the program offers excellent patient experiences, wide-ranging education that includes case-based training, family-centered rounds, and the use of simulation training. Evaluation is timely and interactive and the atmosphere very collegial and supportive.
