Endovascular Services (falls under vascular surgery)
Endovascular surgery is just one of the many advanced techniques and services that Jersey Shore offers. This surgery is a relatively new, less invasive way of treating the two major problems that can develop in blood vessels: aneurysms (a "ballooning" of the artery) and stenosis (a narrowing of the artery). During the procedure a surgeon makes a small incision or needle puncture in the skin and enters an easily accessible artery — often the femoral artery in the groin. A long plastic tube called a catheter is placed into the artery and, using X-ray imaging, a surgeon then advances the catheter to the aneurysm or narrowing to make the necessary repairs. By entering the body in this minimally invasive manner, we are able to avoid a major surgical procedure which involves local anesthesia. As a result, you are often able to go home the same day or the following day. Our endovascular surgeons are always using and training other physicians in new FDA approved devices and techniques.
