The Stroke Center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center has been recognized for many achievements, including:

  • Becoming the first hospital in the region to be certified with the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission, the nation’s largest and oldest accreditation agency in health care, for meeting the highest standards in quality and safety


  • Being one of two hospitals in New Jersey to earn the American Stroke Association's and American Heart Association's Silver Performance Achievement Award


  • Showing significantly better results than other hospitals in New Jersey as reported by the Department of Health and Human Services' Quality Report

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and is leading cause of long-term disability. One occurs every 45 seconds.

When stroke symptoms occur, every minute counts. Effective treatment delivered within the first three hours is critical to limiting the damaging effects of stroke. Jersey Shore's Stroke Center and board-certified neurologists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And comprehensive rehabilitation services and home care are available for follow up care.

Call 911 immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms of stroke:

  • Sudden weakness or numbness, especially on one side of the body.
  • Difficulty speaking or understanding.
  • Sudden vision changes.
  • Dizziness, balance problems, or difficulty walking.
  • Sudden severe headache.
