- Electronic cross matching
The medical center now set its sights on becoming the recognized regional leader in a number of tertiary services and Graduate Medical Education Programs. The Florence M. Cook School of Medical Laboratory Science has prepared more than four hundred (400) professionals since its beginning in 1947.
Employing over ninety (90) professionals the Laboratory functions as the "Core" laboratory for Meridian Health System. Testing is performed in the areas of histology, cytology, special chemistry, and immunochemistry for our sister hospitals — Ocean Medical Center & Riverview Medical Center. In addition, the Laboratory operates an Outreach program which provides testing for physician offices, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and performs phlebotomy in patient's homes.
The future of the Laboratory Services is bright as we embark on a transformation project which will result in additional space, increased automation, and incorporate new technologies such as molecular diagnostics.
