Emergency Department

At Jersey Shore University Medical Center, we are committed to providing qualified, compassionate care with state-of-the-art technology and emergency services to our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What to Expect When You Come to Our Emergency Department

When you Arrive
When you arrive to the Emergency Department, you'll first be evaluated by a registered nurse. He or she will obtain a brief history of your medical problem, take your vital signs (such as temperature and blood pressure), and ask you or a family member to check in with our registration clerk. We will make every effort to ensure that your care is handled as quickly as possible.

Registration
Registration is important because it creates a record of your visit. You will also be asked to sign consent forms that authorize us to provide your care. Parental or legal guardian consent is required for children younger than age 18.

Space to Work
Emergency medical treatment requires space and function, so the number of visitors in the emergency treatment area must be kept to a minimum. During your care, we may ask your family to leave the treatment area in order to give our emergency team sufficient space to quickly perform their duties while maintaining your privacy.

Discharge
If you are well enough to be discharged directly from the Emergency Department, your nurse will review the doctor's discharge instructions, giving you information on how to care for your illness or injury at home, if needed. He or she will also refer you to your doctor for follow-up care and if you don't have a doctor, we will refer you to one appropriate for your follow-up medical care.
