Retirement Planning: Some ideas That "WorK"
Several recent studies have found retired people to be at least as happy as employed individuals. Here are a few tips for planning your own happy and healthy retirement:
- Since your coverage may decrease after retirement, take advantage of your health insurance beforehand. For example, schedule a thorough physical, get your vision checked, and have your teeth cleaned.
- Think about where you want to live. Condominiums, offering the comforts of home without all of the upkeep, are popular among retirees. Other possible options include retirement communities or assisted-living facilities.
- Take classes at the local community center or college.
- Go back to work if you like — perhaps as a consultant, part-time employee, or volunteer. Or you might even want to start your own business.
- Take up a new hobby, such as woodworking or painting.
