Urologic Surgery
About Our Urologic Surgery Program
Jersey Shore offers medical and surgical services to treat urology diseases and problems. Day surgery and inpatient procedures are both used in the treatment of our patients. Our urologists work closely with the nursing staff to provide quality care to our patients and their families.
Examples of urological procedures include:
- Radical prostatectomy surgery is frequently performed to treat prostate cancer
- Transurethral resection of the prostate is done for enlargement of the prostate
- Bladder suspension surgery treats female incontinence
- Cystectomy (removal of the bladder) is done to treat bladder cancer
- Kidney stones are treated both medically and can be removed surgically
- Nephrectomy (removal of the kidney) is done to treat kidney cancer and infection
Robotic-assisted Surgery
At Jersey Shore, robotic-assisted surgery is revolutionizing the way physicians operate on patients with urologic conditions. By combining robotics and state-of-the-art computer technology, it enables surgeons to operate with greater dexterity and control than is possible with traditional surgical approaches.
In addition to a quicker recovery time, other potential benefits for patients include less blood loss, reduced postoperative pain, and a reduced risk for infection.
Robotic-assisted surgery is being used at Jersey Shore to treat a number of urologic conditions, including:
- Prostate cancer
- Kidney cancer
- Bladder cancer
- Urinary obstruction
- Tumors on the adrenal glands
- Adrenalectomy
- Nephrectomy (radical and partial)
- Reconstructive pyeloplasty
- Prostatectomy
Utilizing the da Vinci® Surgical System, surgeons use the small incisions associated with laparoscopic surgery, but with the improved visualization and range of motion the robotic surgical platform offers, they are able to do so much more. Learn more about Robotic Surgery at Jersey Shore
