Center for Weight Loss Surgery

The benefits of weight loss surgery go beyond what the eye can see. If you are obese, surgery to lose weight may be safer than carrying around those extra pounds.

A study by the National Institutes of Health found that 10 to 15 years after having weight-loss surgery, obese patients were less likely to develop — and more likely to recover from — diabetes and other heart disease risk factors.

Weight-loss surgery could be an option for you if:

  • Continued efforts to lose weight with diet and exercise have been unsuccessful.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher (extreme obesity).
  • Your BMI is 35 to 39.9 (obesity), and you have a serious weight-related health problem, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or severe sleep apnea. In some cases, you may qualify for certain types of weight-loss surgery if your BMI is 30 to 34 and you have serious weight-related health problems

At Jersey Shore University Medical Center, our expert physicians and dedicated staff work with you to ensure the best results. From initial testing at our Sleep Center, to nutrition and psychological consultations, our patients have access to a multidisciplinary team and the complete continuum of Meridian services to provide pre-surgical clearance, useful information about the procedure, and education and support after surgery.

Our group of surgeons offer:

  • Sleeve Gastrectomy
  • Lap Band(R) Surgery
