Message from the Chairman
At first blush, Internal Medicine residency training programs are all much alike.
Indeed, the Residency Review Committee (RRC) that oversees all Internal Medicine programs lays out our obligations as teachers and programs in a document containing well over 300 program requirements, the rules and regulations that govern residency training.
And, yet, all programs are very different. Your task is to uncover these differences in order to find the program that will best meet your needs. We invite you to explore what makes Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC) different—why JSUMC may be the perfect place to hone your skills as a physician.
As you set out on your quest, you may do well to find the answers to these questions:
- Does the program have a large and diverse patient population?
- Does the program strike an appropriate balance between...
- Autonomy and supervision?
- Didactic education and experiential learning?
- Between inpatient and ambulatory experiences?
- Between work and lifestyle?
- Does the hospital have world class facilities?
- Does the hospital provide world class care?
- Will you have access to state-of-the-art technology and Information Systems?
- Is the emphasis on service or education?
- Is there a strong faculty that is fully committed to the program?
- How do the residents fare on graduation?
Answer these questions and the choices will narrow considerably. This is a most exciting time in your professional development. We wish you the best of luck with your decision and great success in your future.
Sincerely,
Elliot Frank, MD, MBA, FACP, FIDSA
