Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Jersey Shore University Medical Center?
We choose our residents from the candidates who apply via the ERAS Program. ERAS is the Electronic Residency Application Service. It is commonly used by medical graduates or medical students in their final year of medical college to apply for specialized graduate training in residency programs in the U.S. More information can be found at their web site http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/start.htm
Our applicants have all successfully passed Part 1 and Part 2 of the USMLE. The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE™) is sponsored by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) of the United States, Inc., and the National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®). Results of the USMLE are reported to medical licensing authorities in the United States and its territories for use in granting the initial license to practice medicine. The three Steps of the USMLE assess a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles that are important in health and disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care. Part 3 is required during the first year of the residency. For more information please contact their web site at http://www.usmle.org/
We do accept passing Part 1 and Part 2 of COMLEX in lieu of the USMLE. The Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination – USA (COMLEX – USA) is sponsored by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME). For more information please contact their web site at http://www.nbome.org/
Competitive applicants are invited for a mandatory interview that also provides an opportunity meet our faculty, our residents and to attend Morning Report. All applicants are considered regardless of age, gender, race, religion, place of origin, marital status, parental status, disability or any other factor.
